The Sleeping Dictionary
A young English colonial is sent to the jungles of the Sarawalk during the 1930s. Inside this steamy jungle, the officer meets up with a beautiful native (Jessica Alba) who's assigned to teach him the native language. Their tutoring sessions evolve into a passionate bonding of forbidden love … but before long, their romance is torn apart by war, as the British troops and the tutor's tribe become enmeshed in battle.

Schoolboys wet dream come true - anglophonequebec
At first glance, this is the dream of schoolboys - to be sent off to the exotic jungle to lord it over the primitives. The title comes from the practice of learning the local language from a native speaker in bed and through intimate activities. If the schoolboy ever wanted more, he could not imagine it. As the plot evolves the exotic maiden selected to instruct our intrepid colonial is the daughter of the local resident officer with the prior 'sleeping dictionary'. The Raj in this venue is pretty unimpressive: the Rolls travels around behind a team of oxen. The English women have one mission: marriage- entirely consistent with the Jane Austen baggage they all read. Sarawak makes a convincing background, but the headhunter tribe has the most routine part. It is fine entertainment, up to a point. The ending is implausibly happy, making it a romantic comedy with shrunken heads.Jessica Alba - kdonaghey88
I don't know about anyone else but Jessica Alba was extremely hot in this movie and that alone makes this movie will worth watching. I have not seen a story line like this before and it keeps my attention every time and i have seen it at least 10-15 times.decent entertainment - billie
This turned out better than I expected from the first few minutes. It is intriguing to watch, having been filmed in Malaysia. Of course Bob Hoskins and Brenda Blethen are great, and the younger actors are fine as well, once you get used to Jessica Alba as a Sarawak woman. The story builds into a couple of unexpected places, and ends more happily than would have seemed possible. It is a decent romance, a decent historical fiction.
