Black Sunday
America's Super Bowl comes under terrorist fire in this John Frankenheimer thriller. A band of renegade Arabs calling themselves Black September and led by a man named Fasil (Bekim Fehmiu) hatch a plot involving a Goodyear blimp manned by Vietnam vet Michael Lander (Bruce Dern). Right before they can execute their scheme, Mossad agent David Kabakov (Robert Shaw) discovers the plan and teams up with the FBI to stop them.

Good thriller from the late '70s - Coconut_Willy
I don't recall ever taking the time to watch this movie from beginning to end until now. Mind you, clocking at close to 2 and half hours it does require more time than for an average feature. Still, it is definitely suspenseful enough to keep your attention for the duration. The storyline is very good and is very well developed with no obvious superfluous sub-plots. Up to a certain point, it does tackle a subject that is still very much in the news to this day; a large scale terrorist attack on the United States. The cast is very good, doing a fine acting job with a good dialogue. It is comprised of a few big names of the period and a very large number of lesser known actors in secondary roles. The sets and locations are appropriate, the soundtrack is good as well as the camera work. I am not really sure how it was done but it certainly appears that they did shoot a few scenes during the actual Super Bowl. There are a few special effects scenes (mostly at the very end) and I must admit that they are not all very good. Overall, a good enough film.Touch and go - Chucky
If you Like Thomas Harris then you know that his early works were an aquired taste. This movie has moments of high thrills, the only problem is that they're wrapped up in a thick wadding of blah blah blah but overall its a pretty good movie, the weapon of choice intended for use by Black September is saomething novel for the time and has never really been used again which in my humble opinion was a waste of a terribly good idea. The thought of what that thing was capable of sends shivers down my spine and I usually cheer for the bad guys in most movies. If you rent this, don't expect silence of the lambs or Red Dragon but it is vintage HarrisHarris' First Film... - NJDEVILS
Few know that this is Thomas Harris' first film - one based on one of his books. Harris is well known for the Hannibal Lector stories like Red Dragon and Silence of the Lambs. In Black Sunday, he takes a futuristic look at an issue, which is commonplace today - terrorism that occurs in our own back yard per se. A disgruntled Viet-Nam vet is recruited by a Middle Eastern terrorist organization to commit a terrorist act on Super Bowl Sunday. Although quite dated, this is definitely worth a look.
