The Iron Giant
Something humongous is among us! A young boy rescues a huge robot which has rocketed to earth from space - and tries to protect the genial giant from a nosey government agent and the military. A captivating animated feature that's part metal, part magic and all heart.

Really. I loved this movie when it came out and was so disappointed at the lack of attention that it got at the time. It should have had more marketing, but few people saw it. I now recommend it to everyone and was so happy when Brad Bird went to wrk for Pixar. The resulting Incredibles is also great.
Watch this! The characters are easy to identify with and the story will suck you in.Nostalgic Fun, Nostalgic Sadness - rocksteady
This movie was fun, but more importantly, this movie had feeling. A fantastic and fantastical story, rivalled only by the Toy Story franchise in it's ability to make a (semi) grown man weep at a cartoon.
As much as I enjoy well-done 3D animated films, this film makes me yearn for more hand-animated movies. Coming when it did, this movie was a dying breed, which is almost as sad as the film itself did. Cartoons like this simply tell stories in a different way, have a different perspective, than 3D movies do, a way which to me, is much more personal.Beautiful and underrated - NowhereMan99
I didn't expect to enjoy this movie as much as I did. The story is not too complicated and isn't anything groundbreaking, but the characters and ideas presented are amazingly well done. There is a brilliant look at war (using the Cold War backdrop very effectively) that may be a bit frightening for younger children, but is something that children and adults can learn from. The characters are surprisingly fleshed-out and offer a lot of humour and heart. The title character is not what I assumed him to be going into the film, and becomes another wonderfully developed character. Definitely watch this if you get the chance, and help it gain the recognition it deserves.
