First Daughter says it all.... This movie was fun and light-hearted, but by no means was it a collector's item. Katie Holmes does not always succeed in looking 18 (more like 25) but she convinces the audience that she is at least well-meaning. Michael Keaton returns to the big screen- the daddy-daughter chemistry is endearing, if not nearly convincing.Cute movie - Flanders
This movie did seem alot like Chasing Liberty with Mandy Moore, but not exactly the same. The same story line but still was a good movie. I thought that Katie Holmes was believable as a young college student, when infact I believe she was around 26. I just didn't like the ending scene that much, I would have liked to see how it all ended up.Chasing Chasing Liberty, The Price and Me... - Baboonvideo
Mediocre minds really do think alike. While the marketing and scheduling folks behind First Daughter thought that it would be best to postpone the film by over six months - the better to distance themselves from the painfully similar Mandy Moore film Chasing Liberty that was originally opening around the same time - it is clear while watching First Daughter that it was a bad move. Not only do memories of Chasing Liberty flood back while watching this film, but time has also seen the release of other similar preteen-oriented romantic comedies as The Prince & Me, Ella Enchanted and A Cinderella Story, all of which further dilute any freshness that First Daughter may have once had.
Katie Holmes works far below her talent here as Samantha Mackenzie, the daughter of the U.S. President (Michael Keaton) who is just aching to break out the shell of her public persona. Her so-called rebellion, however, is fairly innocuous and though Holmes is a more appealing heroine than Moore (who came across as a spoiled brat in Chasing Liberty), she seems too sensible to ever really cut loose. As Holmes' love interest, Marc Blucas isn't nearly as interesting as Liberty's Matthew Goode, but at least Keaton seems to be having fun as the most softhearted Commander-in-Chief in history.
