t all takes place on Coconut Pete's Pleasure Island, where Pete (Bill Paxton, slumming it with infectious abandon) holds court while scantily clad vacationers play crazy games (life-size Pac-Man, anyone?) and provide easy prey for a slasher on the loose. Ah, but there's the rub: Is this schizoid movie a comedy or a horror flick? It's both... and neither... and the bloodletting is surprisingly extreme amidst all the poop and fart jokes. Of course, that won't stop Club Dread from finding its audience. We know you're out there…and you know who you areMeh. - geeksbewithyou
I had a few good laughs at this movie, but overall it was disappointing. I know you can't really complain about character development in a slasher movie, but the only way I could tell the hero and heroine from the rest of the characters was by how much relative screen time they got.
I wouldn't make somebody turn this movie off if they wanted to watch it, but it's no Super Troopers.More clever than your typical bikini-fest - fotoguy
It`s nice to see a movie of this genre that doesn`t pause after every joke just to make sure you "get it". Club Dread gets off to a slow start, and sometimes you wonder if maybe you missed something and you should be laughing. Sometimes the gags sneak up on you and you don`t laugh right away, but then you realize what a spoof that was on something else and you start to giggle.
The movie does pick up the pace in the last third, and the gags are very comical. At first I thought Bill Paxton was a poor choice to stick in as a "we can only afford one name-brand actor", but after you watch him through the whole flick you learn to appreciate how funny his character is.
In the end, you get this feeling that this movie is stuck somewhere between a Leslie Neilson laugh-a-minute spoof, and a boring bikini horror movie. It is funny enough to be worth the rental though.
