Heidi
A Classic Children's Tale
Johanna Spyri's classic story comes to life in this wonderful adaptation about a young orphan girl abandoned by her aunt to live with her grandfather deep in the Swiss Alps. The wonderful young Heidi enchants the lonely old man and ignites sparks of joy, and nestled high in the mountains, she finds warmth and beautiful home. But Heidi's happy life is disrupted when her rich Uncle Sessemann decides to bring her down to the city to live with her crippled cousin Klara. Sad and lonely away from the Alps, Heidi once again weaves her magic so that everyone can enjoy the world she loves so much, and become a family once again.

What a wonderful movie. This movie surprised me by being one of the movies I have MOST enjoyed watching in a very long time. My husband said that the makeup and stuff were too fake, but neither my children nor I noticed those points.
In a market of "extreme" sensation movies, with heroic but extremely bland characters, this was candy for those people who enjoy ... people. Each character was exquisite and unique - imagine a film without cookie-cutter stereotypes!
I was in heaven watching this movie: the scenery was blissful, the costumes and homes were fantastic and the characters were so human. It was the first time that I have seen old-fashioned acting look as natural as it did theatrical. I positively fell in love with everyone in the movie.
My adult mind was piqued by the people and my children loved the story. We have been talking about it at home for two days now. What more could one wish for?
