Mr. & Mrs. Smith
Lombard and Montgomery Get Hitched As they're Getting Unhitched!
"If you had it all to do over again, would you have married me?" Yes, guys, there is a right answer. That's something David Smith learns the hard way when bubbly better0half Ann queries him over breakfast
Also right are radiant Carole Lombard and easygoing Robert Montgomery as the starts of this breezy Alfred Hitchcock comedy. For three years, the Smiths have been blissed but battling. But when a technicality voids their union, Mr. misses Mrs., orbiting the tale into the delightful cockamamie of the screwball genre. From a script by Academy Award winner Norman Krasna, Hitchcock made his change-of-pace foray into all-out humor memorable. "Here again are his unmistakable touches," Look declared. "the net effect is the same, too: another Alfred Hitchcock hit."

not the later version of the Pitt & Jolie flick but it is Hitch movie - barkersbeauties
This is not the later version of the Pitt & Jolie flick but it is Hitch movie and the main focus is light comedy. A married couple who find out that due to a legal issue their marriage is not legal is not an unique premise. Wife Ann( Carole Lombard) and Husband David (Robert Montgomery ) have excellent chemistry. We first see they is a volatile marriage and they have established rules to guide their relationship. One rule is they will not leave their room until they've patched up after a quarrel and this has gone on for days. Somehow this upper middle income couple makes their "game playing" marriage work. However, when they are told individually by a state government official that their marriage is not legal they each plan on more game playing to attempt to fool each other that they are each are not interested in making their marriage legal. How far do they take this joke is what drives this zany comedy.A decent Hitchcock curio - anjoop
It seems fitting that the original trailer for “Mr. and Mrs. Smith” (included on the DVD) does not mention that the film is directed by Alfred Hitchcock, as this 1941 screwball comedy is distinctly un-Hitchcockian. Nonetheless, the film is competently directed and is acted with gusto by Carole Lombard, Robert Montgomery, and a strong cast or supporting players, who collectively make the film a reasonably enjoyable way to pass 95 minutes. Hitchcock’s only other American comedy, 1955’s “The Trouble with Harry,” proved to be more a more appropriate fit for his macabre tastes and British humour, but "Mr. & Mrs. Smith" is still worth a view for Hitchcock completists and fans of the screwball comedy genre.Lombard In Top Form - Tinseltown_Tess
There isn't a whole lot of bad things to say about this one. Carol Lombard, whose short career produced some of the best films ever made, is at the top of her ditzy dame form here. It's a really well written comedy, Just screwball enough to be great fun without getting annoying. I really liked the documentary on Hitchcock and the film that they included too. If you like Bringing up Baby or The Awful truth, you'll like this.
