Candleshoe
A savvy street urchin named Casey Brown (Jodie Foster) and an ex-con (Leo McKern) take advantage of an elderly woman, Lady St. Edmund (Helen Hayes), by having Casey pose as her estranged granddaughter. Their aim? To steal a cache of treasure they think she's hiding. But when she moves in, Casey begins to wonder whether their plan has any basis in truth -- and whether she even wants in on the heist anymore.

Not bad, except for a few over-done scenes - Fudgeflaps
This movie was pretty good, and I was able to sit through it for the whole length without losing interest. However I did find a few scenes to be a bit much. They just seemed to ramble without much dialogue or sense of purpose.
Other than that I found Candleshoe to be very enjoyable, and it certainly makes for good family entertainment.Good fun - eojupiter
I vaguely remembered seeing this film when I was young and thought I'd give it another go since David Niven is entertaining to watch in a light-hearted movie (I was thinking fondly of The Pink Panther).
It didn't disappoint me... this movie is still a lot of fun to watch as an adult, though the situation all seems quite make-believe. How could a secret hunt for treasure hidden on an old estate not be awersome though?3 1/2 Stars - bleuorchid21
Candleshoe is the story of a young orphan, Casey, who is sought by Harry Brundage, a man who is looking to make a deal. He wants Casey to pose as the long lost granddaughter of Lady St. Edmund in order to find a hidden fortune at her castle in England, Candleshoe. After fooling everyone into believing she is Margaret, Casey sets to finding the clues for the fortune, but slowly develops a relationship with the whole household and starts rethinking whether or not she truly belongs at Candleshoe with people who care about her or if she wants to continue helping sleazy Brundage.
I remember watching Candleshoe as a child and always really enjoying it. Everyone plays a key role throughout the film and Jodie does a really good job as Casey/Margaret (at the time she appeared in a number of Disney films). David Niven is splendid in the role of Priory, among his other roles as characters used to amuse Lady St. Edmund (he is in another of my favourites, Murder By Death).
If you are looking for a great Disney live action film with adventure, action, comedy, and mystery, I highly recommend Candleshoe, as it is always a delight to watch.
