Silver City
Down-home Dicky Pilager (Chris Cooper) can't put a coherent sentence together, but he's running for governor anyway, as a candidate for those looking for an approachable leader. But his campaign hits a snag when he hooks onto a corpse in the middle of a fishing photo op. Journalist Chuck Raven (Richard Dreyfuss) smells a stink -- and a story -- so he hires a gumshoe (Danny Huston) to find out who the corpse is and its connection to the politico.

this is a thinking person's movie, because it completely lacks action. but if you're interested in u.s. politics you'll notice the probably not accidental similarities between the character running for senate and george w. bush. darryl hannah's brief appearance is excellent, as is billy zane's. but if you're looking for a fast paced story with tension that will keep you on the edge of your seat, then this isn't for you.HMMMM... - chrisf483
This was an interesting journey, in that ... every time I found myself getting ready to turn the movie off due to boredom or irritation, something would pull me back in. I actually quite enjoyed Darrel Hannah's character, and liked the "intrigue" of what was going on with the toxic dumping, but it was a real challenge to watch Chris Cooper for any length of time. I understand the point of the similarities to George Bush, but I guess I really wouldn't want to watch him for 2 hours either!Muddled beyond belief - TaBobo
I am amazed by the lack of realization throughout this film. Very poorly written dialogue, film student like cinematography and cut to the talking actor editing. These elements greatly detract from what could have been a very interesting motion picture. There was so much potential that went unrealized. For a director that can tell a story and actors that have proven time and again they know how to act and commit to a character, this movie seems as though no one involved paid any attention to what anyone else was doing, which is very surprising for a project that could only have attracted people because of what it had to say.
