Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow is one of those movies that combines the best of classic 1940's comic books with modern CGI magic. True, the plot is a bit lacking, but the special effects and the CGI makes up for it. Personally, I would suggests watching it for the CGI and the special effects, but don't be surprised about the plot.Enjoyable blast from the past - nebcanuck
From the moment you begin, Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow feels like an old-style comic book. From the heroic Sky Captain challenging advanced robots in his WWII fighter to the ditsy journalist girlfriend who can't do anything right but ends up helping out anyways, the characters and the premises resemble some of the old Captain America or Superman comics. Sure, there's not much backgrounder when you first start it up, and the action is fairly unbelievable in an age where hyper-realism tends to dominate action films, but if you let yourself sit back and enjoy the nostalgic feel of this film it's really a good watch.Could have been better - chnoodle
While this movie was visually stunning and had some inventive special effects, the performances seemed to lack something. The movie had an impressive sounding cast and a fun science fiction plot, it still seemed to fall short of what it could have been and left me feeling like something crucial was missing.
