Criminal
"Criminal" is the Americam remake of the 2002 Spanish film "Nine Queens".
John C. Reilly (Chicago), Diego Luna (Y Tu Mama Tambien) and Maggie Gyllenhaal (Secretary) star in a contemporary caper movie set in Los Angeles. It's the story of an extremely odd couple: a young Latino man who will do anything for his family (Luna) and a 30-something scheming white guy who will do anything to his family (Reilly). One wants to save his father. The other wants to get rich, in any way possible. So when they come across one of the most valuable pieces of currency in U.S. history, they're suddenly stuck together, and that's just...criminal. All they have to do is sell it, which is where the real problems begin. And of course the only way out is family: the one person who can help them, hates them: the schemer's sister (Gyllenhaal).

Well paced, well acted, well shot, and greatly well cut together - moviemonger
Con artist caper movies are a dime a dozen, but in the modern day cinema they still manage to stay fresh while keeping us guessing. Based on the 2000 Argentine film Nueve reinas, Criminal is this year’s cinematic con job brought to us courtesy of Danny Ocean and his puppeteer. A Soderbergh and Clooney produced con artist flick with John C. Reilly; it has to be good. Right? Sure it is, but it could have been so much better. I’ve nothing against Reilly, Gyllenhaal, and Luna; I mean they all did great jobs. It just seems odd seeing Reilly in a lead role like this. I’m not knocking his performance, but in watching the movie it seems like someone else passed on the role and he got thrown into it. Criminal could have had more of an impact in the events leading to its climax with some one who has a little more weight to him.Clever and enjoyable - BCMovieLovers
Fun con job caper. Movies on this subject matter are not made often so I usually like to watch them whenever I can. The con jobs were fun to watch. The writing was good. The characters were good. Even John C. reily's character was really interesting......do I hate him, or do I sympathize with him...I'm still not sure even after watching the movie.Good watch - Filmgal
This film is a relatively good watch. A reamke of the foreign film 9 Queens, Criminal follows a con man and the people who get wrapped up in his latest moneymaking scheme.
Although not as good as the 9 Queens, the film does have it's good moments. Light hearted and humourous at times, the film offers 90 minutes of added twists to what would otherwise become a boring caper film. The only downside is that Maggie Gyllenhaal is underused in what could have become a greater role for the actress.
If you enjoyed Matchstick Men, then I would recommend this film.
