Mean Creek
Beneath the surface, everyone has a secret.
Set in a small Oregon town where secrets are hard to keep and lies even harder, Mean Creek flows with a simple elegance of truth and consequences as it follows a crisis in the lives of its teen characters, keenly directed by first-timer Jacob Aaron Estes.
The journey within begins as a plot for playful payback on a local troublemaker; the journey onscreen begins with a river, as a ragtag group of troubled-and-not teenagers set out on a boat trip to celebrate the birthday of their youngest member. As a sort of boyish Heart of Darkness trip develops, cracks in the crew form when some of the teens have second thoughts about what they are about to do.

Good (but sad) Movie that makes a strong point - Chrissa
Well it is definitely not the film to see if you want to be happy...or you want an action film or a thriller. It is, however, a wonderful, yet distressing film that takes a great look at bullying.
A young boy is picked on by a bully who terrorizes many kids at the school. The boy and his brother come up with a prank to pay the bully back. As they spend some time with the bully they realize he isn't a bad person, he is just self-conscious. With peer pressure the boys and a verbal spat with the bully, the prank goes wrong. The kids are left to deal with a major problem and they all have different ideas to deal with it. This movie makes some strong points about bullying and revenge. The acting is good and the script is also good. There is some crude language and some violent and disturbing scenes that many not be appropriate for younger viewers, but would be good to start a discussion about bullying and the consequences. Overall, an excellent (but depressing) movie.Every town have their bully!!! - Melvin
It has been a long time that this movie picked up my curiosity and finally, I've been able to put my hand on it! My first thought after watching this Indie Picture was that the the subject/topic of the movie is really common but what an amazing talented crew of young actors...their role playing is very solid. Having said that, throughout the film, you get sucked in by their performances and make you care for each characters (even George!!).Surprisingly and startlingly effective - Lone_Wolf
I didn't know what to expect from Mean Creek, but I was certainly glad I zipped it once the credits rolled. It is very, very well constructed with a well crafted script, pragmatic dialouge and all around amazing preformances. The best thing about the entire production is its effectiveness however. I was never, ever bored and even though it was a purely dramatic movie, I was still 'on the edge of my seat' in a few occations. It can be scary, intense, heart breaking, sad and somber during the entire run time. Very emotional (not in the sappy sence) and effective, ehanced by the great preformances makes this indepentdent highly recommendable.
