Mr. Toad's Wild Ride
This classic -- and very loopy -- children's tale from Kenneth Grahame gets a new lease on life in this live-action treatment starring members of the Monty Python troupe (John Cleese, Michael Palin and Eric Idle). The whimsical Mr. Toad (director Terry Jones) runs afoul of a gang of weasels by driving too fast in his motorcar. Then, the snarly little beasties try to demolish Toad Hall and turn it into a (gulp!) dog food factory.

A movie for all to enjoy! - footnote
I started a forum a while back called “Kid movies that adults like too”. This movie fits the bill. Our viewing crowd consisted of two adults (one of each), one 9-year-old girl and 2 11-year-old boys. All were thoroughly amused. I was concerned the boys would think it lame; being based on Wind in the Willows and human actors don thin costuming to take on the roles of the animals. But the absurdity of it all won them over. This will be a good introduction to the Monty Python brand of humor (along with Timebandits) for the young ones. Steve Coogan’s quiet performance as Mole is particularly outstanding (Steve Coogan, a quiet role, really). Along with the humor, the Fascist weasels bring some deeper meaning to all the silliness.
My only complaint was Terry Jones’ voice for Mr. Toad was very similar to his Brian’s Mum voice from Life of Brian, kept expecting the classic lines which was a bit distracting.
