Oscar (Will Smith), a lowly tongue-scrubber at the local Whale Wash, becomes an improbable hero when he tells a great white lie. To keep his secret, Oscar teams up with an outcast vegetarian shark, Lenny (Jack Black), and the two become the most unlikely of friends. When his lie begins to unravel, it's up to Oscar's loyal friend Angie (Renée Zellweger) and Lenny to help him stand up to the most feared shark in the water (Robert De Niro) and find his true place in the reef.

Very cute. Love how they portrayed the gay shark as a dolphin, something Brittney quotes on Glee as a fact!! Not as good as Shrek, or some of the other animated non-Disney movies, but still super cute and worth watching. Unlike the other one's I found this kids cartoon to have the best music, but then again, with Will Smith and Christina Aguilera how could you not!!Good Fun For Kids And Adults Alike - revsdd
A fun story and good animation make this feature a movie that the whole family can enjoy. It's neither deep nor original, but to expect that would be to miss the point of the movie: it's intended largely for kids, who don't really care about depth or originality - they just want to have fun with it, and for parents who just want to be able to watch a fun movie with their kids. On those notes, the movie scores quite well. The characters are fun, and to the extent that one can talk about "performances" in an animated movie, both Robert Deniro (as the shark "Don Lino") and Will Smith (as the Shark Slayer "Oscar") put on good ones.
Oscar - a tiny fish who works as a tongue scrubber at the local whale wash - is mistakenly identified as the killer of a great white shark (Lino's son). Oscar relishes his newfound celebrity, but finds out that fame comes with a price (he now has to be the defender of the reef against all sharks, and he has to deal with Lino's desire for revenge against the guy who he thinks took out his son.) Oscar teams up with Lenny, Lino's other son, who happens to be a gentle, vegetarian shark who's something of an embarrassment to his tough dad. (This, and Lenny's decision to dress up like a dolphin, lead to some limited social commentary about the importance of accepting those who are "different" - which comes across as a message to parents with gay kids, frankly. Adults would get that social commentary; most kids wouldn't.) Eventually, through his adventures, Oscar discovers the value of honesty and Lino comes to understand the importance of accepting people (or fish) as they are.
Some of the references in the movie (especially allusions to "Jaws" and "The Godfather") are going to be over the heads of the kids watching and, in all honesty, the story - while fun - isn't going to rival either of those movies, either, but what makes this movie work is the ability for parents and children to enjoy it together.Selling us snake oil - toad
Dreamworks snuck this movie in when it had no competition. Somehow the lack of a cohesive story or decent script didn't seem to matter to parents hungry for a family movie who made this a hit.
Am I the only person getting tired of fart jokes in animated movies lately? It's a cheap laugh (and yes the kids love it) but now any movie out there that involves water has to have a bubble coming out of someone's ass.
Yawn yawn yawn.
The weird part is that most of the jokes were aimed squarely at adults. Do kids get puns? Do kids think that calling Katie Couric, "Kattie Current" is funny?
Do adults?
This movie reminds me of those 1940's Looney Tunes cartoons in which the whole joke was to make animals look like Hollywood film stars of that era.
Throw in a 1970's disco hit sung by fish that look like *gasp* the actual singers and you don't get much of a story.
The movie stretches a very weak story line to the limit and every time they can't think of something that has to do with the plot they fall back on yet ANOTHER imitation of a past pop icon (e.g. MC Hammer).
There's a reason Rich Little never had a movie career and this cartoon is a pretty good example of why.
It's not horrible, just very mediocre.
