Will Graham is a gangster who has left the life of crime and is living in the countryside. He comes out of hiding to investigate the death of his brother when he learns that he committed suicide. Charlotte Rampling is his old girlfriend who owns a restaurant. Boad is the villain responsible for the bad things that happened to Will's brother.

I quite like British gangster films but this one was a disappointment. Clive Owen is an excellent actor and was solid in the role, as were some others, but overall the plot was weak and seemed unfinished.
More time spent with character development and backstory would have gone a long way to making this a memorable film - but in the end it is highly forgettable.nicely done - 2commit
With a remarkable cast and a director who has become adept at realizing noir films, it should come as no surprise that this is well done. The noir genre almost demands a slow pace so the viewer can drink in the atmosphere and tension. There are no special effects here, no car chases, nothing being blown up; what there is is a well-crafted, well-acted little gem.I'll Sleep When I'm Dead - RoughRider
Modern film noir that is more style than substance. But it is film noir and that is what you should expect. A moving soundtrack and stark landscape set the tone right off the start. The acting does what is needed. If anything it is the dialogue that is lacking. Although it moves along slowly, it is an interesting style. If you are looking for in your face action this is not the place. If you like little films about little stories, you may enjoy this.
