De-Lovely is an original musical portrait of American composer Cole Porter, filled with his unforgettable songs. In the film, Porter is looking back on his life as if it was one of his spectacular stage shows, with the people and events of his life becoming the actors and action onstage. Through elaborate production numbers and legendary hits like "Anything Goes," "It's De-Lovely," and "Night and Day," Porter's elegant, excessive past comes to light - including his deeply complicated relationship with his wife and muse, Linda Lee Porter.

Cole Porter was the equivalent, to Broadway, of the Beatles to the 60's generation and is woth noting. Keep in mind that this is a Hollywood dramatization based on facts. This version is much closer to reality than the Cary Grant version. Cole lived hard and can be compared to others who havedone much the same (Elton John). Kline and Judd are a perfect match and this bio-drama flows across the screen with ease. Adult viewing and parental guidance required.De-Lovely is delightful - valkyrie49
What a beautiful love story ~ if the Porters' life was accurately depicted, then they had a love affair to be envied. So many of us confuse lust with love, we forget that true love can be platonic. Maybe because the sexual "chemistry" never played a part, they never had that to lose. Regardless, this movie was written and performed with class, and although a little slow in places, I never lost interest. The musical cameos are a special treat! This movie is amazing...whoever is saying the songs are bad for a musical obviously didnt understand the meaning of the story. The songs are all from Cole Porter and they used it to put his life n retrospect. The man lived such an interesting life and the story tells of the love he had for his wife, meanwhile being a gay man. If you ask me, this was an excellent movie and really makes you think about the time period and what some of those catchy songs that everyone loved really meant. Watch it, its great. If you are into musical theatre whatsoever it is a must see, even if you dont know who Cole is!!
