Metallica: Some Kind of Monster
Three years in the making, this new film from acclaimed documentary filmmakers Joe Berlinger and Bruce Sinofsky (the team that created "Brother's Keeper" and "Paradise Lost") provides a fascinating, in-depth portrait of the most successful heavy metal band of all time, as they faced monumental personal and professional challenges while recording their first studio album of original songs in five years. In the tradition of such seminal music documentaries as "Don't Look Back" and "Gimme Shelter," "Metallica: Some Kind of Monster" seeks to transcend the conventions of the "rock 'n' roll movie" genre, trading rock-star posing for truthful introspection, and revealing an intimate portrait of the individuals behind a legendary band and their unique creative journey.

Some Kind of Monster was three years in the making chronicling the biggest heavy metal band in history...Metallica. This was an interesting movie with the viewer being allowed to share the making of their new CD. We followed the highs and lows of Metallica. Band members struggled with personal problems and conflict with other band members along with a band member leaving and the search for a new bassist. I enjoyed this movie and found the behind the scenes look intriguing.Great - HIMandHER
I'm not a fan of the band, and lord only knows i have a mate who has tried to convert me. Again & again & again. I am however interested in the music business.
Monster is very revealing of the members in the band in an entertaining way.
Also you have to love the therapist they bring in, the clothes he wears and then thinks his in the band pretty much.
Very entertaining.I'm not sure what the intention of this documentry was ... - sinic
... but I kind of lost all respect for this band.
Rockstars are a different breed of human. Everyone at one point in their live wanted to be a rockstar because it just seemed like the greatest possible life you could lead.
This doc shows that the rock star life isn't al;l that great (which I think everyone realizes at a certain point), but also shows that these people are completely disfunction, whiney and unable to do the simpliest tasks without being handheld ... it is sad.
I like Metallica's music (older stuff anyway), but watching this DVD made me really dislike these people.
As a doc, it is about average. Nothing terribly innovate really. Interesting for a while, but gets boring at about the half way point. I stuck through until the end, and there was no real pay off ...
