Stander
Andre Stander is a young, white policeman enjoying the comforts of middle-class married life in late-1970s South Africa, a country riven by Apartheid. Deeply affected by the indiscriminate killing he witnesses and takes part in during Riot Patrol, Stander wordlessly makes a decision to defy the very system he has spent a lifetime enforcing. Stander's form of civil disobedience, however, takes an unusual form: a series of audacious, high-flying bank robberies, with the young police officer oftentimes returning to the scene of the crime as the lead investigating officer. Finally apprehended by his colleagues, Stander is jailed and subsequently befriends outlaws Allan Heyl and Lee McCall. Following a daring prison break, the "Stander Gang" commits dozens of bank robberies across the country, heists that grow increasingly bolder over time...

Good Cop. Great Criminal! - portcat
I choose this film because I grew up next door to Bronwen Hughes, the director. It turned out to be quite a good movie.
Andrew Stander took a stand against the police force that forced him to kill unarmed people because of apartied.
This movie is a very well made true story that was quite entertaining.Worth watching for the action - Beeper
Good cop? Gangster? Robin Hood?
This movie delivers fast paced action & good acting, however a lack of focus in the story makes what could have been an epic tragedy, fall short of its expectations.
What ends up is only a mediocre "Bonnie & Clyde" gangster movie, in the fresh setting of South Africa in the 70's, with a weak social commentary on apartheid.SURPRISED ! - StEpHuLAr
I was looking through a site about famous criminals who had movies made of their stories and came accross this one. Other user reviews made me decide to give it a try, and I was not sdisappointed. I can't believe this movie is so obscure, it was so well done ! Well shot, well acted and extremely entertaining... from the opening scenes of a murderous riot in a Jo-burg slum, as recalled by Stander to the great ending. I love that this film didn't try to glamorise everything, then tie it all up with a nice cooshy Hollywood ending... Definitely something to put on your Ziplist if you like heist / true crime movies.
