September 11 (11'09'01)
An unorthodox look at the repercussions of the terrorist attacks on September 11, 2001, is presented in this collection of short films about how people from all walks of life were changed that day. Included are stories from a World Trade Center tour guide going through relationship problems just before the attacks and a lonely old man who lives minutes from the Twin Towers. Also included is a segment tackling the viewpoint of a suicide bomber.

This is not for everyone. Most of my friends would be bored, but then they love "The Hills". This is not Hollywood's version of Sept. 11. If you can sit through some of the slower short movies and work with the subtitles, then you just might pick up some of the different views from people all over the world. We are reminded, a few times, how America has stepped on the toes (or should I say killed, maimed and has bullied) other countries and yet naively avoids looking in the mirror.
I agree that the Vladimir Vega film (himself a survivor of the bloody CIA backed military coup in his country of Chile which oddly took place on Sept. 11th, 1973), managed to make the most compelling point with his short. But I also respected the views looked at from the child's perspective in Africa or Iraq. The more artsy approach with lots of black screen from Mexico, though was hard to watch since we are used to being overstimulated, was interesting. I also was moved by the true story of the Muslim family whose missing son was a suspected terrorist only to be later found as one of the heroic volunteers who lost their lives trying to save others.
There was no common thread or specific summary or even opinion to be found at the end. Just 11 different views on an emotionally charged, sad, catastrophic event in our history.
For the reviewer who thought there were no subtitles in the first movie, we had to go back to the set up and choose English subtitles, then it worked.
So I know this isn't for everyone, but if you are opened minded and appreciate creativity you should be left with something to think about.Couldn't do it... - dee2
Not because it was so tragic, but because it was sooo boring. The first short story, had no subtitles, then the next one wasn't that interesting, then the 3rd & then I think I fell asleep. I was going to try to get through it again, but decided not to bother. Perhaps if I had stuck it out, it would have been worth it; especially after reading some of the other reviews. Maybe I will try again...Depressing but eye opening - Lori
These short films were most often depressing but they were also very enlightening and eye opening. Seeing how children in Iran were being told about what happened that day, to watching how being deaf affected how one woman in NYC learned of the events, each film provided a different and very unique perspective on such a shocking day in the history of the world.
