Five New Yorkers face Christmas Eve alone in this meditation on what lies at the root of the holiday spirit. Rose (Susan Sarandon) tries to connect with her dying mother. Nina (Penelope Cruz) and her boyfriend (Paul Walker) are in love but must work through his jealousy issues. Artie (Alan Arkin) thinks his late wife's spirit lives in someone else's body. And Jules (Marcus Thomas) is a brutalized man yearning for peace. Chazz Palminteri directs.

Just plain awful... - janetmt
I was really looking forward to seeing this film based on the really strong casting. However, much to my dismay the film was so over the top in terms of its melodramatic plot, that I had to stop myself from laughing throughout most of the film - even during those really sad moments (there are really only so many sad plot lines that one person can take in a movie). In sum, te acting was overwrought and the varied stories were unfocused. All in all, this movie is one of the worst I have seen in a long time. Avoid at all costs.Potential Not Reached - xsparkleprincessx
With a stellar cast and a seemingly clever intergation of several stories, I thought this film would be amazing. A believable, strong performance by Susan Sarandon was not enough to hold this work together. The pace is steady. The odd encounters are usually poignant and at times hilarious. Still, the last 20 minutes or so ruined the film for me, the eternal realist. If you enjoy Hallmark Hall of Fame flicks, you will surely enjoy this movie.Don't wait till Christmas - billie
Very tender and nuanced. A charming semi-sweet Christmas Eve in New York. Lonely people. Confused people. Interactions by the most unextpected people. The human soul held with great dignity and honor as it struggles for contact with something "other". This is the nicest Christmas meditation I've seen in years. I'm glad I saw it.
