Mulholland Falls
Set in early-1950s Los Angeles, this crime thriller about an elite anti-gangster police squad boasts an all-star cast. Led by Max Hoover (Nick Nolte), the group of detectives known as the Hat Squad investigate the murder of a woman (Jennifer Connelly) who, it turns out, had a colorful sexual history involving high-profile men -- including one of the squad's own.

This is by no means a classic film. But the truth is that I remember hating this movie. I don't anymore.
It is actually a pretty classic example of film noir. Beyond a few derivitive plot points, there are some fine performances here. John Malkovich is especially fun to watch in a small role.

What Mulholland Falls lacks in plot it makes up for in visuals. I admit that I sometimes drift away when watching this movie as I get lost in the well presented sets. Not only the interiors, but the exterior shots represent the 1950s as they should have looked, even if the reality was different
The presentation is so on, that it is easy to not notice the number of cars, trucks and other vehicles that appear to be in pristine shape.Useless Drivel - Ben_Hart
How can a movie get so many potentially good actors together and yet wind up an incomprehensible mess. I guess you have to blame the director (look at the last three star wars movies). The characters are one dimensional and their actions are unbelievable. The 'mystery' is incomprehensible and without much logic. And the plot GAH! Oh well you can't turn back time. Avoid at all costs.
