Donnie Darko
Director's Cut
During the presidential election of 1988, a teenager named Donnie Darko sleepwalks out of his house one night, and sees a giant, demonic-looking rabbit named Frank, who tells him the world will end in 28 days, 6 hours, 42 minutes, and 12 seconds. He returns home the next morning to find that a jet engine has crashed through his bedroom. As he tries to figure out why he survived and tries to deal with people in his town, like the school bully, his conservative health teacher, and a self-help guru, Frank continues to turn up in Donnie's mind, causing him to commit acts of vandalism and worse.

Incredible unique, but what the heck? - easyHwolf
This is a strange movie that requires more in the extras. There's nothing in it to explain the ideas or messages the director/creator had.
I thought it was interesting but my wife thought it was plain weird.
This is one of those movies that people that study film will talk about for years.A twist in time - simpleme
Incredibly unique, I can't believe I waited so long to see this movie. I have not seen the original, and probably won't in the near future. I enjoyed every moment of this movie, and look forward to watching it again to pick up on the smaller details that I probably missed. Wonderfully dark and a great look into the mind of a schizophrenic. Incredible twists and the end, and connections you could never imagine. Absolutely fantastic.Wonderfully Inventive Movie - c4th
Donnie Darko is a wonderfully inventive movie far less dark and ominous than its title, cover art, and jacket descriptions seem to imply. For the longest time I avoided it, mistakenly thinking it was something completely off the wall. It is definitely different but only because it is full of imagination, stimulating to the mind and surpasses all of its competition on the entertainment scale.
Donnie Darko is a journey of discovery best experienced untainted by any previous exposure to trailers or spoiling reviews. One watches this movie with the overwhelming sense that every inclusion serves a purpose. It is not surprising to find yourself continually questioning why something is there or why it was shot as it was. You will cling to every detail waiting for the explanation. The beauty of this film is that when all is done, there is no singular explanation. The movie stays with you as you take your interpretation through countless reconstructions and refinements.
The director's cut contains additions and an altered musical score. I recommend the original version which reveals enough for the viewer to piece together a meaningful plot.
