Cultures clash with a mighty clang in this comedy of manners and mayhem directed by James Brooks. When a beautiful Mexican housekeeper, Flor (Paz Vega), is hired by a rich Los Angeles family, everyone's life is upended in hilariously zany ways, especially when the parents (Tea Leoni and Adam Sandler) make it their mission to be so welcoming that they become overwhelming -- especially the dad, who's quickly smitten by Flor's beauty.

Funny and Cute - LilyandMick
This was one of Adam Sandler's movie which was not overly laughing scenes, but little cute side of him showing in the movie. The comedy part of it was little slim, but everything else was great for kids and enjoyable. This was interesting to see how the kids are enjoying in the movie.Like Life: The Point is Not Always Obvious - jmikesmith
I found this movie charming, well-acted, and believable. It seemed to lack resolution, however (which is not necessarily a bad thing). Some sub-plots, like how John Clasky deals with his restaurant's unexpected success, or Deborah Clasky's relationship with her daughter, did not have satisfactory conclusions, or any conclusions at all, for that matter. Yet the core relationship between John and Flor was very well done. It was nice to see something other that "boy gets girl" that made sense and respected the characters' identities.
In some ways, this movie seemed more true to life than many Hollywood fictions. It was messy, some situations were unresolved, and you finish with a sense that life will go on after the events of the movie. I like that not all the loose ends were tied up (although the framing narration tells you that Cristina continued to do well in school). Recommended.Bueno! - Piknik
I loved this movie---much to my suprise. The story of two cultures trying to co-exist in a country that trumpets the American melting pot/the American dream. Of course, upper middle-class Amerciana took a much harder hit than working class Mexican culture but then they are such a big target, as well as the target audience. And the messy subjects were handled respectfully, which was very refreshing. The casting was superb. Tea Leone was great as the obsessive perfectionist. Adam Sandler as the sensitive, well-meaning father. Cloris Leachman was awesome as the crazy ex-jazz singer grandma. And my favourite was the actress who played the Anglo daughter, Bernice. Such a genuine smile! Perhaps some people will rent this movie thinking they are getting a light comedy, but there is a lot of substance to this film. It has heart.
