Winner of the 2004 Academy Award for Best Picture!
"I don't train girls", trainer Frankie Dunn growls. But something's different about the spirited boxing hopeful who shows up daily at Dunn's gym. All she wants is a fighting chance. Clint Eastwood plays Dunn and directs, produces and composes music for this acclaimed, multi-award-winning tale of heart, hope and family. Hilary Swank plays resilient Maggie, determined not to abandon her one dream. And Morgan Freeman is Scrap, gym caretaker and counterpoint to Dunn's crustiness. Grab your dreams and come out swinging.

Some have described classics like The Godfather as tonally perfect, though I have to say this definitely ranks up in the Greatest Movies listing and definitely deserves all of its awards, for Freeman, Swank, Eastwood as the director, and best picture. Eastwood also should have got it for Best Actor, he did really good. Extremely sad, but motivating movie with a message, and even great soundtrack, use of humour, and screenplay.Tear-jerker! - TrinaRol
This movie is a testament to actor-director clint Eastwood, if there ever was one. Hilary Swank is an amazing actor, but one can tell that working with Clint Wastwood and Morgan Freeman gave her that little something extra to make this a performance and a movie to remember. Every word she says, every move she makes in this movie makes a person want to hug her and tell her its going to be okay. Morgan Freeman in this movie is stellar, as well...his voice in the narrative is strong, yet non-judgemental of his friend and mentor's actions. The ending...well, that just come's out of left field and cold-cocks you. All in all a superb movie that I recommend 100%.Better than most boxing analogies - BottomLine
Bottom line: This is one of the best movies to come out of Hollywood in a long time. It's certainly one of the best boxing films ever made. And it may be the best movie Clint Eastwood has made to date.
The story is simple enough, though the startling ending ties your Hollywood-trained expectations into a pretty knot. Don't worry, I won't give it away. Although the film will take you to a place where boxing does become a metaphor for spiritual striving, the script--and more importantly, the acting--keeps you in close contact with the flinty realities of women punching other. This is a gritty, uplifting movie which magically transmutes the suffering of its protaganists into something sublime on the screen. In short, this is what movies should be.
I reserve my 5 star-ratings for only the very best films. This is one of them. See it.
