A Love Song for Bobby Long
Set in a forgotten section of New Orleans, Purslane Hominy Will (Johansson), a jaded teenage loner, returns to the city of her childhood upon hearing of her mother's death. Expecting to find her mother's house abandoned, Pursy is instead shocked to discover that it is inhabited by two men whose lives took a wrong turn years before. Friends of her mother's, Bobby Long (Travolta), a former literature professor, and his protege/biographer Lawson Pines (Macht) have been firmly rooted in the dilapidated house for years with no intention of leaving. When all three stand their ground, they are forced to try to live together, setting the stage for the story of three people and their unlikely home. As time passes, Bobby, Lawson and Pursy are surprised by the secrets they discover about themselves and their histories, revealing the seemingly small choices that have inextricably intertwined their lives.

A great New Orleans tale - Scopitone
A hidden gem. Some great performances, esp. from Miss ScarJo before she went all big budget and got less interesting. This is a small, character driven film about a group of misfits. The scenery and New Orleans atmosphere is gorgeous. Jon Travolta is suprisingly good as well.Hidden Gem - Avanoir
This movie is one I would never have rented at the store. I added it to my ziplist to fill-up space. How glad am I that i did that.
It was a story about loss, love and hope.
I am a huge fan of John Travolta and I believe this is one of his best performances.
Worth watching!Worth watching!! - Chere
This movie felt like an old play...the dialogue was beautifully written and had depth behind it. The characters were developed and I was interested in each one of them; I found myself not really wanting this movie to end. I was hesitant to watch this as I hadn't heard ANYTHING about it and it seemed to be in theatres for such a short time. I think it may be one of my fave Travolta characters though. I loved his tragic existence, his poetic language and his simplicity...watch this movie with an open mind (and heart).
