This is one of those films that is probably of minority taste. Beautifully acted by Ralph Fiennes and Cate Blanchett. The parts of Oscar and Lucinda's childhood characters also beautifully depicted. We watched this over two evenings to allow some of the depth of the story to permeate. The flipping from Devon England to New South Wales Australia at the beginning of the film was not always easy to keep up with - but patience, my friends - it was well worth it.super film - jennifer3
this is a great film, based on an even better book. cate blanchett is wonderful, as always. she radiates intensity and struggles against life's very unfairness. ralph fiennes is gawky and awkward and uncomfortable in his own skin - yet also manages to be endearing and brave. the end is tragic, the middle is sad and the beginning heartwrenchng - yet the movie is also very funny and the characters are so true to themselves that even after you watch the movie you hope is will work out differently the next time.Excellent Ralph Fiennes and Kate Blanchett - nora
This is a long movie, telling the story of two unusual characters brought together by their addiction for gambling. The first part of the movie is hilarious, but slowly it becomes clear that the end is going to be tragic. The story is narrated with tenderness and elegance. Ralph Fiennes and Kate Blanchett give a great performance in two difficult roles.
