Christmas with the Kranks
In "Christmas with the Kranks," based on the John Grisham best seller "Skipping Christmas," Tim Allen plays Luther Krank, a man who decides to skip Christmas and all the surrounding trappings and go on a vacation with his wife Nora (Curtis) instead. But when his daughter decides at the last minute to come home for the holiday, he is forced to put Christmas back together.

This movie was ok but a bit unrealistic. I don't think that this kind of thing would ever happen to me or anyone I know however it was an ok movie to watch on a rainy day with nothing else to do but i would certainly not recommend it as a much watch.Cute, Simple Christmas Movie - 1writer
Although I agree that there is an overall aspect of the movie that endorses spending more money than you wish on the Christmas holiday season...it is fiction so I chose to relax and enjoy a simple holiday movie. That is exactly what I got out of it...nothing complicated, a bit far-fetched, but a lot of holiday events and some enjoyable down-time.Read the book instead ... - ladytonia
once again the book is so much better than the movie. You would think by now I would know that and would stop renting movies based on books, so few of them live up to expectations. This one is no different.
I found Mr Krank's character too materialistic to and scrooge like. In the book the Krank's were not anti Christimas, they were just looking to change things up. The neighborhood was dissapointed with the Kranks decision, but they were not nearly as vocal as in the movie. I found that the movie took the weaknesses in the book and expanded on them. The book had a very uplifting ending and you really did see the progression in Mr Krank to embrace the season. In the movie all Tim Allen's character was concerned about was missing his cruise. How he progressed from that to giving the trip to the neighbors just by seeing them thru the frontroom window was a little lost on me.
Stick with the classics for holiday films, and read this book - its just a short one and much better than the movie.
