I just like Wesley "hot" Snipes, as Blade he's delicious. However, the idea of ressurecting Dracula in a vampire movie is plain and overdone. I do appreciate the vampire stories within the plot, interesting to get another writer's opionion on that particular myth. If you are looking to watch a movie that appeals to your vampire interests. Might be one to watch. This sucked - DeRat
*spoilers inside* - I'd normally care and about that and avoid it but you shouldn't watch this show unless you have to... and in which case what do you care about reviews...
I didn't expect much from this movie and I was right... I knew nothing going in... I had not read a review or even the back cover... so when they woke up something evil I was like ok... Queen of the Damned-ish, its been done but not a bad premise... and Underworld 2 pulled it off ok I thought. But then you learn its Dracula... and about the only thing good that happens from that point on is they give Bram Strokers book/movie a nod of respect, before they fail miserably in trying to make me think their version of how it happened is better... Ryan Renolds is funny in some movies and could possibly be an action actor in the future as he is in shape, but in trying to do both here I thought he failed miserably not that the script helped him, this movie is predictable right to the end, there are no twists, you will not be surprised... you will be, if you are used to action/horror type films, imho bored to death. They don't even use Blades weakness besides a extremely lame scene where a little girl asks what the inhaler is and Blade delivers the cheesiest lines of the film... which is a feat because there were just so darn many. The icing on the cake was the Brutal Ipod product placement... lol it was almost as obvious as the Doritos’s one in Wayne’s World 2 (which was obvious as a joke, but they weren’t kidding here folks), Hollywood is getting worse and worse with this stuff and its like they don't think we see it, maybe most don't, but if people continue to not make a point of saying its “obvious and bad” pretty soon movies will be a long infomercial... btw I can hardly wait for blade 4 which they apparently want to make judging by the horrible post-ending ending, that I won't bother spoiling but you'll see if you bother... Brutal show.Could have been good, buuuuut... - toad
I thought that setting Blade up as the murderer of a human while filming him for the news was an interesting touch near the beginning of the film. Alas, after his quick arrest the whole idea was just thrown away.
My question is, "Why even bother then?"
So much of this movie was just tacked on for no apparent reason and no one ever even attempts to think of explanations on why anything is happening.
For instance, a group of vampires finds a pyramid in Syria, and then all that it takes to find the "secret" passage is to simply lift up a stone in the floor that lays right there in the entrance. Couldn't they say something like "only vampires could see the pyramid" or something that would explain the fact that no one else has noticed this loose stone in the foyer for the last 3000 years?
Then, it appears that Dracula has been asleep for thousands of years. Why would he go to sleep when he was the most powerful creature on the planet? "Oh because he was disappointed in how the world had evolved?"
Uh, ok then.
Well, how did Dracula come to exist? "No one knows?!!" Come on guys, if you insist on making him look like The Predator then at least make an attempt at writing some sort of back story. Maybe he was left behind on earth by his alien overlords as punishment for instance.
Ryan Reynolds finds yet another movie in which he gets to take his shirt off but what really drove me crazy was how every single line out of his mouth was a wisecrack.
Then, characters are introduced for no reason whatsoever (like the cop who is investigating Blade and isn't seen again until the very end) also, characters who should die, don't simply so they can keep them around (a silver tipped arrow will instantly destroy every vampire except for this one guy because he gets it in the eye) and Dracula, the all powerful creature who faces down Blade at the end of the movie is the same guy who runs from him at the beginning.
Uh...
