House of Flying Daggers
From the Director of Hero and Raise the Red Lantern.
Near the end of the Tang Dynasty, police deputies Jin (Takeshi Kaneshiro) and Leo (Andy Lau) tangle with Mei (Zhang Ziyi), a dancer suspected of having ties to a revolutionary faction known as the House of Flying Daggers. Completely bowled over by Mei's alluring beauty, the deputies concoct a plan to save her from capture, with Jin leading her north on a perilous journey into the unknown.

As it stands House of Flying Daggers is a fine movie, never quite as good as Hero, and probably behind Crouching Tiger too, and maybe it goes on a bit too long, but it's far superior to most of the formulaic actioners Hollywood produces. Out of ten, I'd give it an eight.Brilliant Drama, Beautiful Images, Great Fight Scenes - Ptimmyj
This movie caught me off guard. The heavy emotions portrayed and the beauty of the movie as a whole was not what I was expecting. Amazing fight choreography, good acting... overall a stunning film.
You will definitely not be dissapointed!

This was a beautiful film, and a good introduction to Zhang Yimou's work. The story develops nicely, balancing action with character. I worried that the film would fall into melodrama, offering a little too much "Day's of our Lives" soap-opera drama. But instead the film developed the love story within the context of wicked intense fight sequences.
But the real reason to see this film is for its distinct visual style. There are many fight sequences that transcend the violence to that of dance, none more beautifully than the "echo" scene. Actress Zhang Ziyi blindly performs an acrobatic feat that betters anything the Olympics can offer. Think the slow-mo action of the Matrix but with flying tapestries. My girlfriend loved it!
A great film and well worth a watch.
