Ocean's Twelve
Twelve is the new eleven.
In this sequel to the 2001 hit Ocean's Eleven, Danny Ocean (George Clooney) reunites with his old flame (Julia Roberts) and the rest of his merry band of thieves and con men (Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Casey Affleck and Don Cheadle, among others). This time, the caper concerns three huge heists in Rome, Paris and Amsterdam. Catherine Zeta-Jones co-stars, and Andy Garcia returns as casino owner Terry Benedict.

12 is just a fun, caper movie. It’s full of holes, but who cares? - moviemonger
As enjoyable as Ocean's Twelve was, it did have some problems. First off, some of the robberies are quite preposterous. If think too much about them, you not only realize that the characters would have a hard time pulling them off in such a short amount of time but that they probably wouldn't work, either. I can't get into details here without spoiling the film, but you'll get the idea when you see it. I can say that they involve major structural changes to a house made overnight, dancing around lasers, and holographic imagery. As long as you don't think too much about it, though, you'll enjoy it well enough. Also, with such a large cast, someone is going to get shafted on their amount of screen time. What Ocean’s Twelve lacks is zip and sparkle, it makes up for in good old fashioned fun. Comical situations and surprise cameos from movie stars playing themselves (including one of the most brilliant twists on the idea that I’ve ever seen) keep the movie afloat. Even though most of the cast don’t get the chance to really shine like they did in Eleven, they turn in a commendable ensemble performance that results in a satisfying show. Compared to its ultra-slick predecessor, it's a bit of a mess. But it maintains a breezy sense of fun and certainly looks as cool as its minus-one equivalent.Ocean's Twelve all at sea - MiniMum
They are the stars of today: Clooney, Pitt, Damon, Roberts, Cheadle, Garcia, Zeta-Jones, etc. I would have given this film 3 stars had it featured unknowns. But these are amongst today's A-list actors.
Think back to the original Ocean's 11: compare them to Frank, Dean, Sammy, even Peter Lawford and Joey Bishop. Of that group only Lawford was primarily an actor. For the rest acting was a second career. And yet they had something that today's class simply cannot touch...they were cool. Clooney comes nearest to matching their savoir faire but the rest? Not even close.
Things are made even worse by the sad script, which is, frankly, abominable. The music is good, but when that's the best thing you have to say about a movie, well, enough said.
This is a supposedly great cast in a bad film, which is a much greater insult to our intelligence than a mediocre cast in a mediocre film.Oh Would Could Have Been (a five star movie)??? - prestozoomo
With the return of an all-star cast (Clooney, Pitt, Damon, Cheadle, Mac, Gould, Reiner, etc) Ocean’s Twelve starts off right where Ocean’s Eleven (2001) left off, on the heals of the greatest casino robbery heist ever. With the huge success of the 2001 remake, it was inevitable that a sequel would soon follow. For the most part Ocean’s Twelve attempts to bring back all of the strong suits of its predecessor, but unfortunately comes up short when it counts the most. With the addition Catherine Zeta-Jones (The Haunting; Traffic; Entrapment) and Vincent Cassel (Derailed; Shrek) the film tries to do just a little too much with respect to, the love story angle with Rusty (Pitt) and Isabel (Zeta-Jones), the Gasper LeMarque (Finney) relationship with both Isabel and Francois Toulour (Cassel),as well as the relationship of Linus Caldwell (Damon) and his notorious parents, while trying to maintain all the same relationships of the first film. Although the film is not all that confusing or hard to follow, it still keeps its fast pace, and is entertaining for the majority of the film, Ocean’s Twelve provides the perfect example of how (the build-up) to one scene can destroy a film in its entirety. Ultimately, the ending destroys the whole movie with the Tess Ocean (Roberts) twist. The sequence of events acts as a total copout to what could have been a fantastic conclusion, making the viewer forget any of the films good points. It really is a shame, because this movie could have been and should have been fantastic, but instead ends up being very disappointing. One can only hope that the director (Steven Soderbergh) goes back to the original formula for the next installment Ocean’s Thirteen (due out 2007), which I will go see.
