Bring Me the Head of Alfredo Garcia
Dark, violent, action-packed character study about a down-and-out ex-pat trying to track down corpse for bounty. Strong-stomached action/drama fans may enjoy this morbid, torrid, Western-style psychodrama.

before natural born killers...peckinpah strikes gold again - sinfrost
Let's go through the list: alcoholism? check. abused women and abusive men? check. check. gun fights? check. gravediggin? check! The film actually seems to be a very personal story for Peckinpah. It tends to get lost amidst his other two masterpiece s in the 70s - "Straw Dogs" and "The Wild Bunch". But it's equally as good. If you're in for the ride, it's well worth the watch.A struggle for more than money ... - Dreamer
Benny (Warren Oates) is a provocative survivor whose circumstances are at war with his inner yearnings, and both are held in the sway of too much tequila and his emotional dependency on a prostitute (Isela Vega) whom he treats as his girlfriend. She is also a survivor but, in contrast to Benny, she lowers her expectations and manages to remain light-hearted and balanced.
When the prospect of getting big money for finding Alfredo Garcia, a man who also consorted with his girlfriend, Benny sees a way out of his hard scrabble existence and becomes like a dog with a bone. We can only guess whether his former experiences with pistols in the army left him on edge. We can only watch as Benny risks everything, struggles to keep his act together in the face of life shattering events, and is consumed by his ever-expanding goals.Alfredo Garcia - Jimmy_Jam
The film centers around the character of Bennie, played by, or should I say enveloped by Warren Oats; there is not a moment when you can take your eyes off his character. At first his glasses are what seem to stand out, but as the film progresses, you can follow the story through the reactions and pain on his face. It is a character that does not need a lot of dialogue because he actions speak 1000 words. He is a man who realizes he has nothing, and therefore nothing to lose; sad, tragic and beautifully filmed. Can anyone make violence look like an artform like Peckinpah? His slowing of the camera, intense cross-cutting and just sheer masculinity is jaw dropping. Dont get me wrong, the movie is totally story driven, it is much more than a bounty hunt; love and loss take center stage. Oats is a man who searches for reason, in a reasonless world and decides to go for broke. Watch it and see.
