Category 6: Day of Destruction
There Is No Shelter From The Storm!
After a freak tornado destroys Las Vegas, scientists determine that unusually destructive weather could be building over the United States. When a "category five" hurricane forms over the Great Lakes and a band of "force five" tornadoes moves up the Midwest toward Chicago, the resulting collision of deadly weather fronts not only decimates great cities, it ultimately causes the entire North American power grid to implode, effectively leaving the United States without power for at least six months.

This was definitely a low budget film without the special effects that we have come to expect today. It was released 6 years ago so that could be part of the problem. The story line wasn’t bad as long as you don’t expect a deep plot line. This is an OK film for light entertainment.
We watched Category 7 right after this movie which was bad and good. It allowed you to follow the characters after a few years had passed but highlighted the scenes that were repeated. Not bad but could be better - Madamx28
This one was definitely made ofr TV and the cutaways to black give that away. As others have mentioned, the special effects are cheesy at best as is the acting. I also noticed a few small plotholes with some of the more minor characters, leaving us to wonder just what became of them. The ending was rather abrupt as well with very little explanation of what had actually happened.Better than the other reviews made me expect.... - BrightAngel
I must agree that the special effects were not exactly well-done (budget, I guess) but the cast was great. The story line was interesting and although the movie was long (almost 3 hours) I had no trouble keeping interested. It is a good watch if you like disaster movies, but if you are into fancy effects and deep moving stories...you can skip this one.
