The first half of this murder-mystery is very intruiging and watchable, but the second half falls short with too much off-camera mayham and a so-so conclusion. Works with its PG-rating, so it stays a little too safe, but would have made a decent exploitation slasher film from the era. Works with all the cliches of its genre, and it's fascinating in spots, just don't get too hyped up for the ending. An Entertaining British Transplant - MovieLover5
This was originally an American play from the 1920's. This film adaptation into 1930's Britain complete with the old mansion, oddball characters and murder, has been pulled off quite well, almost Agatha Christie in style. Wilfrid Hyde-White is particularly enjoyable, although pretty much all the actors play their roles nicely. Oddly, the one exception I thought, is Edward Fox. His character just does not ring true, a bit of a disappointment for fans of this actor. An enjoyable "who done it" for a lazy evening.A decent film. - Dorothy_Zbornak
Fans of Honor Blackman will enjoy this fun romp of a British horror from 1979. A host of noted actors appear alongside her including Oliva Hussey and Wendy Hiller. The ending avoids any clichéd twists and bends and plays pretty straightforwardly. This is a very subtle horror film relying on more of a mystery aspect than an outright gorefest.
