Madhouse
Let The Insanity Begin.
The infamous Cunningham Hall Mental Facility houses the most psychotic and dangerous mental patients in the country. When a staff nurse is murdered, Clark Stevens, a new psychiatry intern, starts digging for answers and soon realizes that there is something very wrong with the people at the asylum...but it's not just the patients.

Even though my expectations for this film were quite low (mainly considering the number of negative reviews "Madhouse" has received) I was still very disappointed with director William Bulter's overall execution of this films story. The story itself is a very sterotypical asylum-based horror tale and is very simillar to many other movies in this genre. The graphic imagery presented in the first 15-or-so minutes of this film, however, perfectly outline the way the rest of the film unfolds; this film tries too hard to be disturbing and creepy and ultimately ends up feeling rather corney.
And although keeping in mind that this film is your typical, somewhat cheesy, horror flick (and therefore expectations can only go so high), I believe that Butler missed the mark with "Madhouse. Not great, but okay for an asylum movie - Moultongirl
I tend to like horrors/thrillers that take place in an asylum, so I gave this one a try despite bad reviews. I agree that the imagery is very spooky and disturbing, especially the section where they keep the very serious mental patients. And you can spot the ending coming a mile away. I did enjoy the inaccurate-but-stereotypical "crazy" people who were largely in the background, and the Nurse-Ratchett-esque nurse.
If you're looking for a general psychological thriller to watch, skip this movie. But if, like me, you tend to like asylum movies and overall creepy vibes on an otherwise boring weeknight, no harm in trying this one.Crap - steve3
Man...what a let down! The first half hour of this movie is SO well done.. the imagery is intensely disturbing, and I thought I had discovered a masterpiece that had somehow slipped by the mainstream garbage horror films we've seen lately. Sadly, not true.
You can spot the "twist" ending a mile away, the story falls apart almost immediately, and most of the great images we see in the credits that set the stage for a good movie turn out to have nothing to do with the movie.
Total waste of time.
