The Pirate Movie
Buckle your swash and jolly your roger for the ultimate musical comedy pirate adventure! Kristy McNichol (LITTLE DARLINGS) and Christopher Atkins (THE BLUE LAGOON) star as dreamy young lovers in this uproarious update of Gilbert & Sullivan’s THE PIRATES OF PENZANCE, filled with virtuous maidens and shirtless cutthroats, savage swordplay and buried treasure, a dashing Pirate King (Ted Hamilton) and a modern Major General (Bill Kerr), plus plenty of pillaging, plundering, plank-walking fun! For years, fans have been clamoring for this infamous ’80s musical from the Oscar®-nominated director of THOSE MAGNIFICENT MEN IN THEIR FLYING MACHINES (1966). The wait is over: THE PIRATE MOVIE is now presented with a brand-new Widescreen Transfer, featuring a fascinating new Director’s Commentary and mixed in timber-shivering Dolby 5.1

This movie I rented and was excpecting something else. It was not what I excepted. It was more a musical than a movie and not even that great. It is an older movie which I would not rent again, nor would I recomend it to anyone else. Like someone else wrote, it is cheesy.Save your time and money and rent something else. If Grease is a 10, then this movie is a 2.Perhaps it should have been The Cheese Movie - Prendila
I saw this movie when I was a kid. I remember turning on the tv and it was just starting. I absolutely loved it! I loved the singing, the dancing, the humour and the sarcastic bits the actors/actresses throw right at the camera.
Years have passed and I always remembered how much I loved this movie... so I rented it again. It just wasn't the same. I was slightly dissapointed. It definitely isn't a movie for everyone, I still like this movie but it's just like now - vs love!
If you like cheesy movies, where there's lots of singing and dancing, this one's for you. It's fun, lively and it's definitely a movie that makes you laugh when it's done.Good for B Movie Night - Mike27
I can appreciate this movie for what it is: An unapolegetic piece of musical fluff whose sole goal is to be silly and entertain. The actors go through their roles with gusto and a wink-wink to the audience. The music is sooooo 80's, which is part of the fun, and it's great to watch Kristy McNichol again (from the tv series Family and Empty Nest). When you're in the mood to have a fun 'B' movie night, I recommend "The Pirate Movie" and you may want to pair it with "From Justin to Kelly" to see how far campy musicals have come (hint: not very far).
