The Jacket
Jack Starks knows little about who he is. Nor does he know why he's bound in a straitjacket and subjected to bizarre psyciatric treatments. But an even more stunning fate awaits this amnesia-stricken Gulf War veteran: the treatments thrust him into the year 2007 - where Jack learns he died in 1993.
Impressive filmmaking talents join forces for The Jacket, a mind- and genre-bender of a psychological thriller produced by Peter Gruber, George Clooney and Steven Soderbergh. Adrien Brody (The Pianist) plays Starks, the time traveler running out of time. And Keira Knightly (Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl), Kris Kristofferson and Jennifer Jason Leigh bring additional star wattage to eerie evens that reach beyond time, beyond fantasy, beyond life itself.

Adrian Brody plays a Gulf War veteran with hardcore Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and is eventually experimented on in a mental institution. There are a lot of great performances, a very gritty and creepy atmosphere. The movie really messes with your mind.Thriller Lite - Rookzip
First things first, I don't remember seeing any previews for this movie, so I had no expectations off the get-go (which can be a great thing).
I was presently surprised on the overall quality of the movie. The story was original, even though at some points it felt like "One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest", especially when Jack Starks first lays foot in the Asylum (i.e. when he first meets Rudy Mackenzie). The actors did a great job, but I have to admit there were a few instances I had to rewind the DVD and activate the subtitles, because I had hard time understanding the dialogue. Maybe it's time for a new TV and hook it up to a Monster Home Theatre, the kind where you don't have a choice to watch the movie without all of your neighbours and they don't even have to leave the comfort of their own home!
This movie falls into the category: Hidden Gem.If you liked The Machinist and Memento, you'll like this one! - Blushun
I was so hesitant to rent this movie because of the thriller classification but I'm glad I read some of the member reviews beforehand and believed 'em when they said this was more of a drama.
There are some solid performances here - especially from Keira Knightley, Adrien Brody and Jennifer Jason Leigh (The Machinist.) Daniel Craig (the new 007), has a brief but well acted role as well. No point of delving into the story as others have already done so. Suffice it to say it's an arty film that you have to pay attention to. If you're into the standard Hollywood type film, you won't like The Jacket.
