Earthsea
Into a fantasy world on the brink of destruction arrives a young wizard with the key to salvation.
EVERYONE MUST FIND THEIR OWN MAGIC
In the magical world of Earthsea, the Amulet of Peace has ensured harmony between humans and dragons for centuries,. But when the Amulet is broken and a piece of it disappears, it's up to a neophyte wizard to restore balance and stop a nefarious king from conquering Earthsea's islands.
In the tradition of The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter comes a richly imagined epic based on Ursula K. Le Guin's multiple award-winning classic tale.

I didn't mind this film it had enough of a story and an intresting idea for a fantasy world. (water world with islands). The acting was credible and the effects fit into the ok category. The only reason I took a shot at this movie was I am a fan of Kristin Kruek Ididn't know that this was developed from a book series, Maybe I should read the books,

i really tried to like this movie but i found it really hard to watch. I like Aron Ashmore and he did a pretty good job with what he had to work with but I would not recommend this, and i am a fan of the genre. As for someone calling it a more grown up Harry Potter, i would have to vehemently dissagree.Bearable to mediocre fantasy... if you haven't read the books. - NoMoon
Earthsea is a very middle-of-the-road fantasy adventure, comparable in enjoyment to Hercules and Xena (minus a lot of the trademarked fromage). It is colourful, and the acting was better than I expected. The script is nothing special, and unfortunately the dialogue is babbly and the plot mostly incomprehensible.
The really unfortunate thing about Earthsea is that it is billed as a re-telling of Ursula LeGuin's Earthsea series. In fact, it is about as convoluted a hack-job of a book as anything imaginable, mixing characters, places, and events from the books as well as inserting completely new, often completely cliché and nonsensical elements. The plot, in particular, is concerned primarily with things that never happened in the series, done by people who never existed.
I won't tear it apart more than that. In fact, Ursula LeGuin herself has written a scathing lot about the movie, and ripping into the creators for putting words into her mouth about what the "real meaning" of her story was. My advice? Watch it only if you haven't read the books, because if you have, you'll be hard-pressed to remain sane by the end.
