At some times this movie feels like a caricature of Hitler more than a factual account. I don't mind a little bit of dramatization in my historical movies, but at some points this movie just didn't have an objective feel to it. As a way of learning about this dark era of modern history it's pretty good I guess, but don't take my word for it I am no historian.

With such a strong subject, I feel this movie really missed the mark.

Chilling. - filmgeek

Robert Carlyle is simply amazing in the title role. The filmmakers toy a bit with the historical record, but let's be honest here, they are not making a documentary. This is a great film.

The depiction of Hitlers rise to power and the turns that are taken with certain of his relationships are so riviting that it is almost impossible to turn the show off.

Highly Recommended.

Hard to tear yourself away - MariaRamsay

A fascinating look at a part of this overall story that does not get a lot of attention. Usually when we think of Hitler, WW2 and the horror of that time, we realize that we don't know very much outside of what popular culture (i.e. hollywood) tells us about the beginnings of it all. This film does a good job at giving us a glimpse of what else went on at that time and what led up to it.

I particularly liked the depiction of the WW1 battles. They felt well-researched. I say this comparing the film to museum information I've seen.

I suppose my own interest lies in the fact that my mother, who was born in 1936, and my grandmother, both lived in Berlin in those days. Unfortunately most people who lived through those events didn't want to talk about them very much. As a result my understanding has been very limited and I benefit from films like this.
