Dogville Confessions

A powerful, absorbing documentary on the creation of Lars von Trier's fascinating drama Dogville starring amongst others Nicole Kidman, Paul Bettany, Stellan Skarsgård, Ben Gazzara, Lauren Bacall and James Caan. For most people, simply seeing the behind-the-scenes footage in this documentary will be a delight. But it also provides a much deeper look inside the world of filmmaking including some moments of insight that are hard to believe. This documentary combines exclusive interviews with footage shot on location in snowy Sweden. In 'boxes of truth' (specially-constructed 'confession' booths outfitted with cameras) all of the actors and director von Trier talked, cried, laughed, sung and confessed directly to the camera. Dogville Confessions contains deleted scenes from the feature film, a look inside the mind and character of von Trier, Nicole Kidman, Paul Bettany and other star actors, and the many problems and great successes that were encountered. While recommended for those familiar with Dogville, it is a great film to watch even if you are not familiar with the original film. A must for any von Trier and Kidman fan or even any film fan, this documentary is fascinating and is a mould for other behind-the-scenes documentaries. The footage covers everything from idea to premiere.
