I don't follow Star Wars. I just picked this up because I thought it'd be a good cartoon. It was. I was pretty surprised that they'd even make something like this, because a huge part of the "Star Wars" brand seems to be their special effects. There are some fight scenes, of course, and I liked seeing them in cartoon format, without the limitations of human bodies. The sith apprentice definitely could NOT be played by any human!Unengaging Collection of Storyboards - KevinJaques
Stylistically, it was sort of a cross between animé and a crude American thing, maybe Hanna–Barbera, though the motion was smooth and complex. It was almost solid action. The action was well choreographed and the direction was dramatic. But the animation action had almost no emotional impact. I was tempted to think it never could, but I can think of contrary examples. Maybe it was just a basic movie problem that a movie must engage you before it can affect you.
It was a collection of mini-chapters, some quite short. It struck me as being a collection of storyboards that never made the movie they were intended for.Only if you like animation movies - TomDuhamel
Although I am a great Star Wars fan, I might have expected too much from this and I had to be quickly reminded that I'm not a fan of animation.
I will first admit that the story is as good as it could, the characters are well represented (compared to the movies) and overall I was somewhat captivated by the movie.
On the other hand, it was real hard for me to accept that those Jedi I know well from the movie could do tricks they couldn't before and were like four times as strong as they should, and that a ship which should have completely evaporated as it crashed to the ground had in fact only experimented some regular hard landing.
Only recommended to animation fans.
