Not on the Lips (Pas sur la bouche)
Alain Resnais’ delightful new period musical comedy is based on a 1925 Parisian Operetta and stars some of France’s leading actors.

Absolutely Delightful - Stage
This movie is not the greatest drama, the greatest comedy or the greatest musical out there. What it is, though, is a purely delightful way to spend a couple of hours.
It's an affectionate send up of the musicals of the 1920's and 30's. The plot is silly and fluffy and the only real thinking you'll have to do is guess who's going to end up with who in the end.
The costumes are lovely, the music is catchy and fun and the actors are clearly enjoying themselves. A definite stand out is Lambert Wilson's spot-on American-speaking-French accent.
The only minor complaint I have is with the subtitling of the songs. They have chosen to make the subtitles rhyme rather than translate what is being sung directly. This will only bother people like me with enough French to understand vaugely what's being said, but who also need the help of subtitles fill in the gaps. Those people may find it jarring to hear the word 'strawberry' but find the subtitles talking about chocolate mousse.
