Blue Chips
NBA superstar Shaquille O'Neal stars with Nick Nolte in the story of championship collegiate basketball coach Pete Bell (Nolte), who has always been known for running the cleanest program in the league. But when Bell suddenly finds himself at the end of his first losing season, the pressure is on from the alumni, the fans, and himself to get back on top. Seeing no other way, he decides to attract the nation's top up-and-coming talent ("blue chips") the only way he knows how: by paying them under the table.
But now that Bell has the best team money can buy, including a seven-foot phenomenon from the bayou (O'Neal), he finds that the ultimate price for his success may be his career.

A Nice Surprise - TheDandyist
At first glance, most would probably pass this movie over. That would be a mistake.
Blue Chips is a charming little film for sports fans that features decent acting, some great sports action, and just the right amount of drama. I will also be the first to add that it's refreshing to see Nick Nolte sober in this film, without the crazy hair and the prison I.D number.
With all the sports scandals occuring as of late, especially in US collegiate sports, Blue Chips really touches a nerve. The film also features surprisingly believable acting my acting newcomers Shaquille O'Neill and Penny Hardaway. All in all, worth Zipping!Blue Chip Indeed - Ilania
Nick Nolte as Coach Pete Bell gives a great performance. Mary McDonnell is lovely as his ex wife. J.T. Walsh is very good as the "Friend of the (Sports) Program" of the college. The story is pure Americana. It is actually a lesson in college sports programs. Yes there were other programs about college sports, but this one clarifies the picture. The choice of music is not that great though.Nice surprise - Akhar
This sports movie is a pleasant little surprise. Nolte does a great job as the wound-too-tight coach of a struggling team who succumbs to the pressure of signing a winning team and all that entails in the competitive world of NCAA basketball. The action sequences on the floor are fairly believable for a basketball movie and that helps this movie considerably. Add a cameo from Larry Byrd(complete with a peak at French Lick township!) and performances by Penny Hardaway, Bob Cousy, and Shaq, and you have a nice little sleeper of a movie.
