Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte
Charlotte Hollis is a wealthy Southern spinster who is ostracized by the community for her alleged involvement in the grisly murder of her fiancee, 40 years ago. Now, with a construction crew ready to rip down her estate to put in new highway, she calls in cousin Miriam to help her defend the homestead. Unfortunately, cousin Miriam is more interested in proving that Charlotte is insane so that she can profit from the estate.

I rented this out of curiousity. I was a bit bored throughout. It's not very sophisticated and seems to me Bette Davis over-acted. At times her shrieking was enough to make me want to stop the film. I did appreciate some of the twists towards the end. Olivia de Havilland's acting saved the film. Agnes Moorehead who plays Charlotte's maid is kind of weird. Her motivation for being so cranky is never fully understood.Effective - julianrjh
Ok, let me get this out of the way off the bat: This is nothing like What Ever Happened to Baby Jane, nor does it hold the same spell. But that doesn't mean it doesn't have its own merits, such as some great performances from all three ladies as well as some interesting plot developments. I knew very little of the plot itself going in, and I was surprised the developments and the resolution. Worth a look.Creepy Creepy Creepy - FilmJunkie
A really creepy movie about poor Charlotte (Bette Davis looking haggard), a former Southern belle who seems to have lost her damned mind. Luckily her sister comes to take care of her. Or is she there for her own personal gain?
Though Davis is much older than you might be used to, she is still amazing and this film is really weird and terrifying.
It scared me when I was a kid, but seeing it now I am not reassured, it still resonates.
"Hush, hush, sweet charlotte" sends shudders...
I recommend it for a good creep out.
