An interesting look at history - runaway
While this film has the HBO/Made for TV flavour, the level of actor was quite high. Cheadle (as usual) is brilliant, depicting young grade 9 up to ex-con. Underrated work from Eriq LaSalle as director, especially in resisting the temptation to be 'artsy' for artsy's sake. A straight ahead move with an intriguing story.Early Cheadle good but... - Def1
that is not the reason I gave it four stars. Cheadle is Cheadle giving a fine early performance in this HBO movie. It is that a made for cable movie. As a basketball fan the history it portrays is the hook. If you are a basketball fan or enjoy sports movies in general it's worth a peep. If not than Cheadle's performance is probably not enough to hold your interest.Bad drugs and loose women - Neil1
Did I mention bad drugs? Rebound: The Legend Of Earl "The Goat" Manigault (1996) starring Don Cheadle is an uninspiring account of the former college prospect's seemingly endless descent into drugs and iniquity, spending just the last five minutes depicting his miraculous "rebound". Did I mention loose women? There is one set of curves fascinatingly explored in the scene where young Earl, played by Cheadle's brother-in-real-life Colin, is initiated into the Harlem social scene. So for Gosh sakes, save yourself some pain-for-no-gain and go straight to that scene! Two stars. (I.e., better than Battlefield Earth.)
