Hawaii
They came to bring God, but instead brought disease and destruction. The Rev. Abner Hale (Von Sydow) and his gentle wife Jerusha (Andrews) attempt to convert early 19th-century Hawaiian natives to Christianity-but find themselves ill-equipped to endure the unexpected tribulations of paradise. Surging with the excitement of windstorms, firestorms, shark attacks and magnificent island scenery, Hawaii shines as passionately as the island paradise itself!

Dated, but still an epic. - MovieBug
After 40 years, some of the edge'iness of this movie that caused is surely muted. And at the time it was made, much of Michener's novel could not be brought to the screen. Whole portions of the novel, particularly the more 'raw' bits which would be fair game today, are just not there, but rather they are suggested and left to your imagination.
Still, this film qualifies as a genuine epic adventure. The cinematography is beautiful, and first rate performances by von Sydow and Jocelyn Lagarde hold the film together. The ending is a bit of a letdown, however, and leaves you with a feeling that there must be a 'Part 2' coming, which in fact there was.
