Odd Asian Horror - kav2001c
Odd horror film is based on Asian philosophy and more the fear of the unknown than any bloodthirsty spirits. Concept is you are most susceptible at time of your death or when giving birth; a pregnant Joey attempts suicide and suddenly finds she can see dead people. Two spirits in particular she sees repeatedly, some weird old guy trying to possess her friends baby and some lady who haunts her.
She tries desperately to unravel the mystery but can't seem to connect the dots (many of which are obvious to the audiance, which is strange considering the director). Once big reveal happens we are taken back to view scenes in a different perspective (a trademark for the director as he seems to enjoy doing this in every film he makes).
Not much violence or gore, the horror in this film is more a fear of the unknown.Better then expected - MissKalunji
I loved the movie it is an original Asian with English subtitle. I loved how they played with the Buddah religion belief no matter how crazy it might sound if someone explains the movie made it look so possible and real. It kept me guessing til the end. Very confusing the entire time but the end everything comes clear which is a plus. Its nothing compare to American version of The First Eye With Jessica Alba. This one stand on its own. Plot well thought the acting was on point. I would say it was more drama then scary tho. The effects were nicely done as they definitely look real. Sometimes she took it over board i thought it took too long for the story to develop i mean we got the point you see gost?!? The end somewhat left me wondering ok what happens next? But nonetheless (with a little forwarding here and there) it was good enough for me to recommend if you are truly bored.Surprisingly Good - Carnap
I saw this movie without the benefit of seeing its prequel, but no matter, the two films are completely independent of each other. In fact, "The Eye 2" is the finer of the set.
I thought the special effects were especially good, given the fact that the makers did not have all the Hollywood bucks and technology to support their effort. Not to give away too much, there is a particularly creepy scene which takes place in an elevator, and gives me pause for thought anytime I dare to step into one alone since seeing the film.
I also enjoyed the Buddhist themes running through the movie, e.g., reincarnation and karma. These aspects give the viewer a taste of South East Asian culture and religion, thus adding to the experience.
All in all, a fascinating storyline with several great scares. Well done, Pang Brothers!
