The Titfield Thunderbolt (The Ealing Comedy Collection Disc 5)
The residents of Titfield aren't pleased when British Rail decides to close down their local train service, so they decide to run it themselves. Unfortunately, the local bus company will use any means available to run the railway out of business.

Old favourites never die - Sooze
Another great film from Ealing Studios. John Gregson never changes - but the role of squire in this one fits him perfectly. Sid James et al make, what in effect is, a sweet little story into an enjoyable film for the entire family to watch together.
For those who prefer the current style of action packed violence - this is not for you. The pace is perfectly easy going and that adds to its charm.Titfield Thunderbolt - RoughRider
The first Ealing Studio comedy to be filmed in colour. And a film that stands up well in the Ealing catalogue. A simple story about the possible end of a simple time. Great shots of rural England after WW2. The countryside, trains and buses offer a wonderful look at a different era. But it is the witty dialogue, fabulous characters and absurd circumstances that will have you laughing all the way through. That is if you have a dry sense of humor. If not most British humor may not be your cup of tea.Chug, chug! Choo, choo! - Yogini
If you enjoy steam engines, you will love this little gem. The Thunderbolt is a museum-piece - a steam locomotive painted in crayon-box colours, and the star of this pleasant film. The film was made in the almost-elementary colours of the technicolour of the early 1950s, and is like a travelog of the best of English countryside and country manners. The impoverished squire, no doubt a returned hero of the Second World War, takes the produce of his estate to market on the train, and everyone else in the village of Titfield uses the much-loved train on a daily basis. There are many charming scenes, and loveable characters, and a three trite-but-amusing villains. It is one of the few films availble that all the members of the family can enjoy together.
