Silverado
Get ready for some horse-ridin', gun-totin', whiskey-drinkin' fun in this digitally remastered collector's edition of Lawrence Kasdan's SILVERADO, featuring a never-before-seen featurette with interviews from the cast and the filmmakers! The spirited Western stars Kevin Kline, Scott Glenn, Kevin Costner, and Danny Glover as four unwitting heroes who cross paths on their journey to the sleepy town of Silverado. Little do they know the town where their family and friends reside has been taken over by a corrupt sheriff and a murderous posse. It's up to the sharp-shooting foursome to save the day, but first they have to break each other out of jail, and learn who their real friends are. Thanks to its authentic look and spectacular cast, which also includes Rosanna Arquette, John Cleese, Brian Dennehy, Jeff Goldblum, and Oscar®-winner Linda Hunt (1983 Best Supporting Actress, The Year of Living Dangerously), this exciting Old West adventure created a whole new generation of Western fans and earned its "modern classic" status.

Put together everything you've ever loved about Westerns and Adventure movies, and combine them. Yes, it's Silverado. With awesome one-liners, humour, action, suspense, romance, and even some touching moments, it's a film the whole family will love. The violence was a bit much (not graphic, just continuous) but other than that, enjoyable. Not a Classic Western - Stitch
But mostly decent performances by an eclectic crew, classy tongue-in-cheek dialogue, and absolutely outstanding cinematography from broad vistas down to the muddy slush of a pioneer town. The plot? Well, John Cleese as a sheriff alerts you early on to not expect gripping profundities. In fact, as the improbabilities pile to absurd levels, it reminds me a bit of a Richard Sharpe episode--action entertainment with just sufficient gravitas to keep it barely this side of farcical.
One big surprise to me is Kevin Costner. In this a very early role, he does young, reckless and heart-of-gold convincingly. Certainly the most sympathetic character of the whole motley crew. Because unfortunately unlike the true Western classics (Unforgiven, The Magnificent Seven, etc, etc), there’s just too many characters too lightly developed to really connect with any one.
The direction is probably not to blame. The problem lies with the screenplay and the plot is just too darn predictable. In fact, one starts to wonder along the way if this began as a spoof and along the way the producers chickened out and went for drama. Some sub-plots are downright so improbable as to border on risible, particularly the bit about the saloon keeper. Linda Hunt almost rescues this bit, not surprising considering her acting credentials.
I could have sworn Leonardo DiCaprio has a bit part as Rosanna Arquette’s husband but not mentioned in the credits. Hers was equally ‘bit’. And Jeff Goldblum must cringe every time he recalls his character; talk about miscast. Dennehy fails his Gene Hackman sheriff persona (The Quick and the Dead). Better he was offed early. Kevin Kline is soulful. Read dull. Scott Glenn rides off to battle seemingly unscathed scant hours after death’s door? Richard Sharpe does it repeatedly, but he needs survive 16 episodes.
So, very light predictable fare for beer and chuckles. The cinematography and dialogue render it passable. OK for kids. One of the best - FieroGT
This is one of the best westerns I have seen. It is not overly violent and way out there it has a great story and a fabulous cast. Kevin Costner is very young and shines here Danny Glover is fantastic as is Scott Glen and Kevin Kline whom I wouldn't have figured for the part. It is the classic good guys versus bad guys with a twist. the direction is great and keeps the movie moving at a good pace the bonus features are worth the rental also This is and will be a classic
