The Amityville Horror
On November 13, 1973, police received a frantic phone call that led them to a nightmarish crime scene at the Defeo residence in Amityville, Long Island - an entire family had been murdered in their beds while they slept. In the days that followed, Ronald Defeo eventually confessed to methodically killing his parents and four siblings with a rifle, saying "voices" in the house drove him to the massacre. One year later, George and Kathy Lutz and their children moved into the house thinking it would be their dream home. But soon the voices began again. Sleepless nights. Numbing cold. Visions of a murdered little girl. Then George began to do what the voices told him... 28 days after moving in, the Lutzes abandoned the residence - lucky to escape with their lives. 30 years after the shocking real-life events that inspired one of the most popular horror stories of all time, revisit the house that started it all: The Amityville Horror.

Can't wait to see Rob Zombies' Halloween but laugh at the remakes of The Omen and Black Christmas. Of the remakes to date, The Amityville Horror happens to be one that I thought was actually just as good if not better than the original. Well paced, good story, and fine acting kept me involved. I also happen to be a fan of Ryan ReynoldsAnother Double-Take - Yehudi
This remake was different enough from the original to keep you in suspense. Pretty much the same story but greatly embellished with new "scares" and unexpected happenings throughout.
As a horror movie it was fair to good, as a telling of the "true tale" based on the original book it was pretty far of the mark. The first movie tried to stick to the book once in awhile. This movie was more fiction than truth.
I would give the new movie 4 stars just for the fact that it made me jump more than once and that is fairly hard to do.Scary Haunted House Flick - Filmgal
I had my doubts about this remake of The Amityville Horror, but I was pleasantly surprised by this version.
The film is indeed scary with several creepy events taking place in the film. The "based on a true story" plot revolves around a family who has moved into their new "dream" house which is quickly becomming a nightmare. The house remains home to the murdered family that lived there before as well as a few other surprises.
Not too gory, although there are some bloody scenes. The frightening scenes are more of the psychological variety with some ghosts and other haunted elements thrown in.
I wouldn't recommend it for anyone under 14 or for anyone who scares easily.
Not a bad horror film to watch so make room for it on your Ziplist.
