And Now The Screaming Starts
A terrifying secret darkens the halls of the Fengriffen estate where beautiful young bride Catherine (Stephanie Beacham) finds her romantic wedding night turning to horror when she's ravaged by an eyeless ghost. Meanwhile, a disembodied hand lurks in the darkest corners of the house, unbeknownst to Catherine's aristocratic husband, Charles (Ian Ogilfy). As the newlyweds soon discover, the Fengriffen bloodline has been tainted by a vicious curse passed down from generation to generation, and only with the help of Dr. Pope (Peter Cushing) can the latest victims hope to conquer a supernatural evil which has been lying in wait for centuries.
A stellar cast, breathtaking period settings and chilling special effects highlight this stylish gothic shocker from Britain's Amicus Studios, who also brought you Tales from the Crypt and Asylum. Bolt your doors, secure your windows and turn down the lights… it's time to scream!

I knew very little of this movie going in, only that it has a good-to-middling reputation. While I didn't quite grasp the full story until halfway through, it kept my interest alive and it does have its fair share of atmospheric creepies. Note how the lead actress is a dead ringer for Debra Messing.Classic Gothic horror from Amicus - Coconut_Willy
A good movie from one of the most famous British horror production house with good enough acting. Gothic horror is not really my preferred style but once in a while it can be entertaining. This one has an interesting storyline despite the very predictable ending. The cast is typical of the period with the ever present Peter Cushing in the role of an 18th century psychiatrist. The sets and the locations are great, the camera work is good, the soundtrack interesting; all in all, a top notch production for the time. If you like the genre and the period, you should like this one.
The transfer to DVD is of surprisingly good quality when compared with other re-issues of early 70's British horror like some of the Hammer movies. Sadly, no extras...
